Anyone have any security system recommendations

Seems like unfortunate events are increasing in the Houston/Sugar Land bc a few of our friends/acquaintances/neighbor have been burglarized/attacked, and I want to beef up my home security. Initially thought of switching to vivnt, but I heard it was crap.
