Anyone get calls from HARRIS COUNTY and it’s someone in jail? The setup needs some work.

Twice over the last couple of weeks, I've had my phone ring showing, "HARRIS COUNTY", and since I have some business matters in progress that involve the county, I've answered the phone both times.

The system gives them only enough time to say their first name, and it only plays the recording one time. Both times I was driving and couldn't quite make out the name because of background noise. When the recording explained that call-forwarding would not be allowed and other stuff, I just hung up.

I guess no one thinks anyone they know or care about might end up calling them from jail, but it left me curious about whether someone just dialed random numbers and reached me.

It's been a week since the last one so if it was a good friend or relative who had called me, I'd know about it by now.

It does seem odd to have had two calls from the jail in a short time period.

I understand they can't allow a long recording, and limiting it to just the person's name makes sense – but I think they should repeat the recording at least once so we can pay attention and listen carefully so we'll know whether it's really someone we know.

Then again, with AI and the ability to manipulate audio, I guess we can expect more and more scams involving audio of friends or family members, with the scammer arranging for payment by the victim to "help" the family member in jail.

I am pretty well aware of the potential for scams, but I can see that if granny had a call from HARRIS COUNTY (caller ID spoofed) and the person calling was her grandson, and he said his name clearly in his voice, if granny was a little naïve she might follow the instructions to help her grandson with bail.

Anyone else get multiple calls from someone in jail? Or maybe clever scammers making it seem like someone was in jail?
