Any newbie friendly bowling or billiards places near Galleria area?

Hi, I am a bowling and billiards newbie wanting to learn to play. Any recommendations on where I can find newbie friendly places to play and maybe get some tips on how to play? I am in Galleria area so hopefully there are places not too far from here. Sugar Land works fine too, my mom lives there so I go to visit her in Sugar Land often. Thanks
