Anthony Rizzo would be 2013- 2015 Chris Carter for the Astros.

I may be the only one here, but I’m not super excited about the Astros’ focus on Rizzo.

While Chris Carter played for the Astros, he batted .223, .227, and .199 with 29, 37, and 24 HR’s and OBP’s of .320, .308, and .307 respectively.

Over the last 2 seasons, Rizzo has batted below .250, finishing the 2022 season at .224. While hitting 32 HR’s, which is a very Chris Carter-ish number, his OBP was only slightly higher at .338.

The reality is Rizzo hasn’t been the .293/.405/.520 guy since 2019.

Couple of variables: 1.) Rizzo also had approximately 100 fewer K’s than Carter would tally, meaning he puts the ball in play far more often. With the elimination of the shift in 2023, Rizzo’s production could be much higher. 2.) MMP is a completely different playing environment, and players may tend to play differently/better. (Yes, Rizzo is a lefty… not referring to the Crawfords, but more the fanbase and clubhouse dynamics).
