An Unbiased Breakdown of Nick Caserio’s Draft Success Rate
30% of drafted players make a roster. Soak that in, 30%.
2021: 4 of the 5 picks are still in the organization: Mills, Collins, Jordan, Wallow
2022: 8 of 9 picks are still in the organization: Stingley, Green, Pitre, Metchie, Harris, Pierce, Quitoriano, Deculus
2023: 9 of 9 picks are still in the organization: Stroud, Anderson Jr., Scruggs, Dell, Horton, To’oTo’o, Patterson, Hutchinson, Hill
91% (21 of 23): Players drafted in the past 3 years are still Houston Texans in the Houston Texans system.
78% (18 of 23): Players drafted in the past 3 years that made the active roster before IR transactions.
52% (12 of 23): Players drafted in the last 3 years that became starters out of camp.
By all accounts we are above league average when it comes to Nick Caserio’s drafting, especially finding talent consistently in the later rounds.
For those of you so so hung up on the 30% number: 5,461 players have been drafted since the Texans entered the league in 2002. Of those 5,461 players 1703 or 31% players made the OPENING DAY rosters for the respective team that drafted them. That is where the number comes from, which I admittedly rounded down 1% to make the number look cleaner.
