An outsider’s take on Houston…
Hi all!
Thought it may be fun to post my observations about Houston on this sub. I’m leaving tomorrow and stayed for one week.
The great stuff:
-
Amazing Mexican cuisine (my favorite) every half mile.
-
Everybody I interacted with has been super nice. Nicer than almost anywhere I’ve been.
-
Boot stores!
-
Awesome weather and beautiful skies
-
Lots of sweet trucks & cars. I noticed way more Ford trucks and way fewer Chevy trucks compared to the Midwest. Not sure why. But this was a super obvious observation. Lots of Toyota trucks, too.
-
Nice skyline
-
Cost of living seems pretty good comparatively
-
Humble city that doesn’t seem full of itself. I felt welcome and not like an outsider. I really loved this.
The bad stuff:
-
This city seemingly has tons of potential but… it’s quite dirty/unkempt. Maybe it was just the areas I visited, but it felt terribly kept. Lack of funding? Misuse of gov funds?
-
Terrible highway system and maniac drivers.
-
Violence… I kept up with local news and was a bit shaken by it. But everybody I met was so nice! Maybe it makes sense for the population size though.
Overall, I enjoyed my time and thank you all for your hospitality. Seriously some of the best strangers I’ve met.
