Amazing Nolie Stat

Had a disagreement with a die-hard NYY fan a few yrs back, who insisted Nolan Ryan was a glorified .500 pitcher. I bristled, but no stats or persuasion got through to him.

Saw stats today which made perfect sense, and explain everything. I wish I could have whipped ‘em out on this obnoxious tinhorn!

Ryan lost 107 career QS. In 107 losses: 2.27 ERA; 1.16 WHIP; 9.77 K/9. 91 QS n/d, too.

The “mediocre” 324-292 record might could be something like 400-230 if his career path looked like this:

Orioles 1966-71 Athletics 72-79 Astros 80-88 * Blue Jays 89-93

*Can’t take him out of Houston, even it makes the point sharper.
