Am I the Only One Who Like Lombardi?
He and Pep worked together in LA so he could keep Pep around, he’s an offensive minded guy which could be good for us because our best weapons are currently on that side of the ball, and as teams in the NFL have shown us lately you can compete by putting up points, but ultimately you also need a strong defense to win which we can build while we work with the offense.
Mills shows he has something, so QB is not an immediate need, Cooks has 1 year left I would love to resign him, he seems to like it here, Collins is looking good, I can see him taking some big strides next year. I think Brevin Jordan will also take some huge steps, tight end is one of the toughest positions to learn going from college to NFL, and he started showing flashes towards the end of the season so he could also take some huge steps. Rex is our RB right now so I can definitely see us taking a late round flyer, or undrafted FA, just because running backs is such a dart throw, you can get serviceable guys for a rotation. If we don’t resign Justin Britt we will need a C, other than that our OL is the only thing on offense that could warrant an early pick.
This draft should be heavily defensive they improved last year, but it is still causing us to lose more games than win. I am fine with any of the top 3 pick most projected, Thibodeaux, Hutchinson, or Stingly. The other pick I see a lot is the OL Neal, but I’m talking defense only. I get why everyone has an issue with all 3, and I’m not arguing any of them I think all points are valid. Our defense is most likely losing Reid which is a big leader on that Defense, so if we can draft a young rookie to become the anchor of that defense no matter the position it can give us an identity and direction. 2-3 round would just depend on a few factors, obviously if someone like Jameson Williams falls to us in the 2nd round or miraculously 3rd round because of his injury, then he’s take him immediately, but other than that we should focus on Defense because as much as I want Mills to be the guy, if he’s not and we have to draft another rookie QB, then it would be good to have him be able to develop behind a defense that he knows can make stops in case he messes up.
With all of that said, I think Lombardi can keep us in games by scoring, while (if they fire Lovie, I like Lovie and want them to keep him, but if the new coach fired him) we get a good DC who can help shape the defense.
I don’t know that’s just me, I am by no means an expert just a man alone with his thoughts.
