Am I an idiot for doing average billing?

Noticed I am paying more than my “current charges” with average billing. In the summer they offered it to me saying it would make the bills cheaper. My last few bills have been well over $400 but the current charges showing way less. Am I dumb? Will I get that money back that I didn’t technically owe? 1275 Sqft
