Alex Bregman (Leader of Men)
I think we all agree that tonight felt good. That was a really really huge win (also thank you Detroit!)
Whilst this streak is great, ive been more impressed with the very pleasing progress on the psychological strength front.
The guys have had to grind many of these Ws out after some dog days slumps, aches and fatigues. They would have lost at least most / all of the close games in the last few series if it was earlier this season (and even those improved months after Mexico City tbf).
To me, a big catalyst in the turnaround has been the leadership of Alex Bregman. Despite his bat struggling for a lot of the year, he stepped up in the usual Breggy ways but also with some new tools.
Watxhimg him more and more. He's in the game planning. He's coaching in game. He's still a great 3B. He's has been grinding on that swing all year and its dialed again. He's got the swag going and they are having fun.
There has been a "leader" void since Correa, then Maldy, Brantley and Dusty all departed. This year has been injury laden and Joe and Omar were finding their feet in the new gigs – a lot of slack that just wasnt being picked up. It's starting to feel a bit more well oiled.
Major props to the whole team but really wanted to single out Bregman specifically. He takes a bunch of flak early every year and always finds a way to deliver when it matters. He's a winner.
Interested to hear what everyone else thinks about this.
(I'm really hoping I'm not buying into the Kool-aid of a Scott Boras masterplan)
