Aggressive cyclists durning bike crawl.

There was a large group of bicycles (80-100) heading north on Houston Ave Around 430-5pm. Many of them were riding on the left lane and being overly aggressive, doing wheelies and getting extremely close to oncoming vehicles. What's up with this, has anyone else experienced anything like this? Was this part of some event? The street wasn't closed off.
