African food for beginners

We’re new to Houston and want to take a bite out of all the new to us cuisines. I know Africa is a big place so encompasses a lot of different types of food, but what African places and what dishes would you recommend for a couple who haven’t had it before? One likes spicy and leans less meat heavy, and one does not like too much spice and loves meat. Thank you!
