Affordable housing

Looking for affordable housing west of downtown. I'm a college student and don't have a lot of money. I do have some credit and could potentially get a cosigner if necessary. I would be open to roommate situations but I don't know anyone really. I've looked at apartments.com but was seeing if there was a better way. Any help is appreciated.
