Advice Request: What should I expect/demand of apt maintenance post-hurricane?
| |
I live in a third floor apartment. The entire eastern wall leaked in Beryl, not just at the windows. The cement floor appears to either still be damp, or have water stains from prior leaks. There is also evidence that maintenance has not repaired/replaced the windows and floor trim/moulding or the window sills following previous leaks, but instead opted to caulk & paint. There was a small amount of mold in the office bedroom; I already killed it but I know that means there is likely more mold inside the walls. Because it was the entire wall, I believe there is a sealing & insulation issue that has not been properly addressed. The two rooms that were affected are my bedroom and a second bedroom I use as my office for remote work. I spend 16+ hours of the day in these two rooms. I also have a small, elderly pet + have asthma myself, and I want us both to be safe during construction/demo/repair from air quality issues related to mold, drywall dust, and so on. Demolition work is set to begin today/tomorrow. I also have furniture in these rooms I'm unable to move myself, and don't have any space to move them to if I could, for things like carpet replacement. So to the title question — what should I expect/demand of both maintenance and apartment management? I'd like to make sure they don't neglect this further, or do a half-assed job. If you have any advice, experience with this sort of thing, or if you know of any other subreddits you think I should cross-post this to, I'd greatly appreciate it. submitted by /u/tamusquirrel |
