Advice for a non-driving woman in Houston
(20F) I recently had to move to Houston with my family and it's not very convenient for me to leave Houston because I'm from an inmigrant family, and they don't want me to move out because as inmigrants we really need to support each other. My area doesn't have metro, the bus is very limited and I'm very close from areas with no transit at all, so I have to go far from where I live in order to do very normal things such as going to the library for example. From what I've read, the only area with a little bit of walkability is downtown, but my family doesn't like areas that aren't "good for family life" (they basically prefer the suburbs that are close to Houston) so they would never consider moving to that area. I can still learn how to drive, but I don't have anyone who has both the time and patience to teach me, and driving school can be expensive. Maybe I just need to be patient till the time I'm able to learn how to drive and have a car, but it's very hard to keep being in Houston without a car in general. Should I consider moving to a more walkable area by myself that's still in Houston? I'm also worried about safety cause I'm a woman and Houston isn't the safest place in the world 😊
