Accessible Neighbourhood to TMC/UTHealth- Midtown vs. Museum District?

Good Morning Houston,

Apologies for another obligatory “I’m moving to Houston for school” post. I tried searching previous posts but couldn’t find any recent or specific about these two communities. (Especially post-storm)

I’ll be moving to Houston from Canada to attend UTHealth. Currently looking at a few apartments in Midtown and Museum District. I understand both are quite “far” from TMC but both are on the rail line so that’s small potatoes.

Thought I should ask friendly Houstonians which area is more appropriate to live in as a late 20s female? Looking to rent a 1B/1B in a newer building with a budget of $1300-$1800. Eg. Is walking distance to grocery stores/restaurants something I should consider? Or the relative “safety” of these neighbourhoods? Which rental companies should I avoid? Does google reviews of apartment give a clear picture or are reviews faked and astroturfed? Etc.

Any thoughts, advice, or feedback is greatly appreciated! Can’t wait to trade in the snow for whatever y’all have down there (snakes?)
