AC Company Gouging
My furnace stopped lighting and was only blowing cold air, so I called Nick's Plumbing and Air Conditioning due to their high ranking on Google. Miguel was a great technician and was able to arrive the same day and diagnosed that the furnace ignitor was bad. He had to communicate with the home office to get pricing to replace, which ended up being $722. It seemed high, but I approved the amount since I needed heat and have roommates.
To do due diligence, I have called around to several places that have provided the going rate should be $400-$450. So Nick's charge was 60% higher than the standard rate. After two calls, i finally received a call back from a manager, which said this is their standard rate for replacing an ignitor and wouldn't budge. It's hard to believe this isn't gouging if it's 60% higher than others.
In hindsight, their Yelp is 2.8 out of 5 stars. Are there any other AC companies to stay away from, and which AC companies are trustworthy?
