About Nostalgia Con Houston…
So since Nostalgia Con wanted to take down my comment on Instagram I'll post it here to warn everyone else.
I decided to volunteer for Nostalgia Con. I thought it would be amazing to finally meet my childhood voice actors, help them out, and have fun. Well…it was fun, but the volunteering experience was terrible.
First off, the team leads were struggling so bad to the point I felt bad for them. The coronation was just awful. I was signed up for line control, but got put on handler role. Was cool with that, but then the second day I asked in our group chat what role I would be doing just to be on the safe side. I got no response so I had to wait about 10-15 minutes to hopefully pray I see a team lead to ask what role I'll be doing. Apparently, a bunch of volunteers left which I don't blame them. Some guest didn't even have handlers so one volunteer had to manage THREE TABLES. I'm not kidding. Also, found out that some guest weren't even informed about handlers or something like that.
The volunteers were also being ignored. We were trying to get breaks, and lunch, but no one said anything. We simply had to wait until someone could relieve us of our spot for ONLY 15 minutes. On my second day I didn't even get lunch until some guy randomly came to me and relieved me while I get lunch. Also, fun fact we couldn't bring our lunch to the guest table because the guest would get "jealous." So the guy let me get lunch and I snuck my lunch to my guest table(whoever you are I love you for that). On the third day, I literally didn't get lunch until my guest left which was early thankfully.
Volunteers were also supposed to get free autographs, but I couldn't get one because team leads were ignoring us. Honestly, though it does suck, but I'm more happy about the fact I was surrounded by celebrities for the first time which is a life achievement for me, I had fun, and seeing fans in costumes while meeting their favorite voice actors.
Also, what's even more crazy is the fact they didn't have a lost and found. Someone left their glasses at a guest table and I asked in the group chat what to do with it, but got no response so I had to go find a team lead to ask only to get a response "put it in the back and hopefully someone comes to get it." If only I was let to leave my table to go find the owner.
Overall, I will NEVER volunteer for Nostalgia Con Houston with that management again. It's honestly not the team leads fault though, I'd more so blame whoever runs Nostalgia Con is at fault. Team leads were terrible, but still trying to manage because of whoever is over them. So to Nostalgia Con, please switch to a new management. Anime Con Houston setup in a shitty hotel and still had better management than this. So if anyone wants to volunteer next year ….probably not a good idea.
P.S If you know the person or is the one who left their glasses, please DM me. I'll try my best to get them back to you.
