Is it illegal to stand outside your house (porch) and talk on the phone?

Just moved to Houston a few weeks ago and I was on the phone talking to a friend while standing on my porch. I was not making any noise. I was alone. Suddenly, I received a call from my landlady who said the neighbor was very pissed off as I was talking on the phone at the porch. I swear I did not cross the compound into their place. I did look at their water sprinkler sprinkling water thinking the grass was recently mowed though.

I have never lived in a house before, only apartments. I was shocked and disheartened but I just apologized to her and went into my room.

I do not know what the rules are when it comes to standing outside the house. Am I allowed to walk on the sidewalks? Is it illegal to glance at your surroundings while walking or standing in front of your house?

Please advise me. I don't want to piss off anyone again or get into trouble.
