Any free parks or affordable spots in Houston to host a small paint party picnic?
Hey y’all! I’m looking to host a relaxed outdoor paint party for about 15–20 people in or around Downtown Houston. I’m hoping to find a park that’s free to use or very affordable—nothing too fancy, just something that allows for a small group gathering.
We’re planning a minimal setup—think picnic-style with blankets, low tables, and painting supplies. I’ve hosted an event at Stude Park before (a community walk with over 40 attendees), and it was a great location. I’m open to using that space again but would also love to explore other parks or outdoor spots that are scenic, not too crowded, and don’t require permits or rental fees for small events.
Open to suggestions outside of Downtown, as long as it’s within reasonable driving distance. If you’ve done anything similar or know of hidden gems, please share!
Date: Saturday August 30th Time: 5:00 – 8:00 PM — (we always give our guest a 30 min courtesy so we will technically start at 5:30pm and provide ice breakers for those that arrive on time.) Age range: 21+ Guest limit: 20 max No alcohol needed* Light bites provided: croissants sandwiches, chips, fruit, water
