The Houston Health Museum Review
Hey Houston! So I decided to take my 5 year old somewhere new and different today. We had done the Children's Museum a hundred times but I hadnt been to the Health Museum in like 25 years since I was a kid, so I figured why not today?
First off, this isnt the best place for a 5 year old. I would say 8 years and older at least BUT we made fun of the place. He loved crawling through the giant colon, screaming in the sound box, playing with some of the magnet games, and taking photos with skeletons. We managed to stretch it out to an hour and a half experience and he had a good time.
HOWEVER, I didnt check the website ahead of time and got caught off guard by an exhibit. We left the human body section and you walk RIGHT into a Uvalde shooting exhibit. They have a big 77 minute timer going. Pictures of all the parents that were affected. Then they had pictures of all the kids shoes who died in the shooting.
LIKE damnnnnnnn!
You cant go from "the human nervous system is 45 miles long stretched out" and walk into "OUR COUNTRY HAS SCHOOL SHOOTERS AND HERE ARE THE VICTIMS SHOES."
Caught me off guard seeing that at the Health Museum…. but I actually got emotional. It was actually a very somber and respectful exhibit for the families. It was so depressing and sad and a reminder of the horrors of this country… but yeah no warning of that transition as you wouldnt expect that at the Health Museum of all places.
Then you walk into the gift shop and see stuffed plushy cancer cells and "I❤️Farts!" Tshirts. Lol
So what a place to visit! Valid to see once every 25 years. 8/10
