How the Devers trade affects us.

For reference, those who do not know, Rafael Devers, DH, of the Red Sox was traded to San Francisco for Jordan Hicks (underperforming starter), James Tibbs III (#4 prospect, OF), Kyle Harrison (Sophomore pitcher w/ a high ceiling), and Jose Bello (Lottery ticket pitching prospect, not ranked in the Giants Top 30.) The Giants are absorbing the rest of Rafael Devers 10 years/$313.5M deal.

  1. This accelerates the trade deadline somewhat. Prodding teams into making trade moves at faster rates.

  2. Almost nixes any chance of the Astros trading with Boston for Abreu or Duran. Boston’s fanbase is in an uproar and Henry, Breslow and company would have a hailstorm coming their way if they were to sell either Abreu or Duran, two of their best players from last year.

  3. Increases the prices of any player we attempt to trade for, especially pitchers such as Mitch Keller or Cal Quantrill. The Devers return haul was humongous, if you say it wasn’t then you are uninformed. Aside from the players they garnered they got out of a player that is being paid an astronomical amount for a DH, practically saving them ~200 million.

  4. Makes the Red Sox, and by proxy, the AL weaker for now, which is quite nice considering we have yet to play any games of our season series against them. All the games we play against them will be in August.

If you disagree let me know and I’d be happy to discuss.
