Chinese/American Chinese restaurants that are actually good or even better than RiceBox?

I know this subreddit tends to hate on RiceBox, but every time I check out one of those small, hole in the wall spots that everyone swears are way better than Ricebox, they end up being pretty mediocre. The fried rice is always bland and disappointing, among other things. At this point, I’m starting to wonder if there’s some big inside joke or circlejerk I’m just not in on when it comes to RiceBox.

For reference, my usual order at RiceBox is the extra spicy fried rice with spicy pepper steak.
