Out of state car registration

My situation: I am a fly-in-fly out worker who just moved to Harris county Texas. I do not own a vehicle in Texas but I do own a vehicle at the fly-in location that is registered in my former state. In order to register it in Texas, I need to have an emissions inspection. Unfortunately, the car is located about 16 hours away from the nearest town in Texas. How do I register my car?

Potential solution: On this FAQ there is a registration renewal process for this exact situation. It states, "You can renew your registration and waive the Texas vehicle inspection requirement either online or by mail." I am sure there is a way to register vehicles in Texas without actually bringing them here.

Has anyone dealt with a similar issue? TIA
