If I were Astros GM…

Hey guys, just wanted to start a conversation about the Astros and how I feel they should go about their off-season. Ripping the band aid right off, I believe we should let Bregman walk. Whilst he has been a cornerstone for our franchise, I believe his best years are behind him, particularly offensively with his far higher chase rate this season. Given the Astros will probably have to pay him around $30 million a year until his mid to late 30s when his defensive value will likely start to drop as well it could very easily become a bad contract. The biggest signed I believe the Astros could make would be Christian Walker, especially if you could get him on a shorter team deal. He’ll provide a nice above average bat as well as elite Defense at first which will be particularly valuable given how often the Astros IF bounce throws. I’d also go and get some middle SPs that the pitching coaches see some upside in ala Kikuchi, maybe a Flaherty if he doesn’t want crazy money or a Patrick Sandoval. Saving money on Bregman and especially when Abreu and Montero’s money comes off the books along with some internal promotions I.e Bryce Matthews should allow us to extend our window for at least the next few years.
