Ways to get license plate owner information?

Someone hit my parked truck at my job. He came in asking who it was, and I came out everything seemed okay since it was dark out, but then when I drive home my alignment is messed up. And then I noticed a scratch on the rim and wheel. I got his license plate but not his ID, which was stupid but I know next time. Any ideas on to get owner info?
