My Offseason Wishlist

For the sake of keeping things realistic, I’m only allowing one trade, and 2 FA signings, of which only one may be for over 10 Million per year as a result of Dana Brown saying they are looking to shed payroll.

1 – Trade Walker Janek and Zach Dezenzo for Michael Busch of the Chicago Cubs. This might also take another AAA arm such as Ryan Gusto.

Reasoning: Would provide a cheap (monetarily) corner infielder that could play off of Yainer Diaz’s position. For example, if Yainer is playing first, have Busch play 3rd. If Yainer is catching, have Busch play 1st.

2 – Sign Michael Conforto for a 1 year 16 million dollar deal. This allows for a competent left fielder to hold down the fort, until either Chas McCormick finds what he used to have, or Jacob Melton is big league ready. Also, Conforto managed 20 homers, however only 3 were at home as a result of Oracle Parks humongous right field wall. Minute Maid’s wall should allow for him to have the possibly to reach upwards of 35 home-runs in a season.

3 – Sign Scott Alexander to a 2 year 6.5 million dollar deal. This is a medium risk high reward option. Alexander has quietly been a quality reliever over the past decade… when he’s healthy, hence the abnormally low AAV for someone with a 3.20 lifetime ERA.

Note: Out of any Astros free agent the one I would most like to resign is Yusei Kikuchi, however I ultimately decided that having another bat such as Conforto would provide more value to where the team struggles. While Kikuchi has broken out, we have an ample amount of quality starters that are in the big leagues until Javier and Urquidy (Who is someone I could see getting traded at the deadline next year) return.
