10 years of Left Guard Tomfoolery

These are the players the Texans have mostly started at LG since 2014:

  1. 2014-2017: Xavier Sua’Filo (2nd round pick, 33rd overall)

  2. 2017-2019: Senio Kelemete (FA, 4 years, $16mm between 2 contracts)

  3. 2019-2020: Max Scharping (2nd round pick, 55th overall)

  4. 2021: Tytus Howard (1st round RT forced to play LG lol)

  5. 2022: Kenyon Green (1st round pick, 15th overall) (Tytus also stepped in in 2022)

  6. 2023: Josh Jones (trade), Jarrett Patterson (6th round), Kendrick Green (trade), Michael Deiter (FA)

  7. 2024: Kenyon Green (shoot this man into the sun with a cannon)

The Texans have invested high draft picks and some FA money (Kelemete) into the LG spot but have failed to find a viable player at this position for 10+ years now. This is a total organizational failure and doesn’t even account for the issues we’ve had at both tackle spots (pre Tunsil/Howard we sent out Chris Clark and Breno Giacomini and acted like that was ok lol), center (Ben jones was last good C we had), and right guard.

CJ is going to get killed. Coaching has been terrible. Throw 7 figures at Mike Munchak, make a trade, I don’t care. But this is not just getting bad, it has been an awful situation for a decade.
