During the Queen B’s most recent visit to Houston, she endorsed presidential candidate Kamala Harris and found time to munch on food from her favorite local fried chicken chain

Houston’s hometown hero Beyoncé has often shown love to her favorite local restaurants. She’s paid visits to B.B.’s Tex Orleans for crawfish, ordering B&B Butchers on a private plane to her next destination, and gushed about her love of Texas barbecue and Pappadeaux in an interview with Vogue. One restaurant she notably comes back to is Frenchy’s, and following her appearance at Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’s campaign rally at Houston’s Shell Energy Stadium on Friday, October 25, both the Queen B and the local fried chicken joint made it known.

Earlier this week, Frenchy’s posted a picture on Instagram of Beyoncé crunching into a crispy drumstick while holding a tray of fried chicken wings. The caption: “Iconic.” In an email to Eater Houston, Ernest R. Hunter II, CEO of the Frenchy’s Companies, declined to go into details about Beyoncé’s most recent fried chicken encounter, noting that it’s “all top secret.”

“I can share that we have a long list of celebrities, politicians, and everyday folks who make sure to get their Frenchy’s fix EVERY TIME they’re in town,” he told Eater, adding: “If you come to Frenchy’s, I promise we won’t tell anyone you came or your order.”

While Frenchy’s hasn’t confirmed or denied any details, it seems safe to assume that Frenchy’s catered for the rally, or more specifically, for Beyoncé considering her fandom of the fried chicken. The same photo Frenchy’s posted is also displayed on Beyoncé’s official website, which features a playful photo montage that chronicles her recent visit to Texas to endorse Harris. The black dress suit she wears while eating Frenchy’s in the photo is the same one she wore to the Harris rally.

It’s not surprising that Frenchy’s has earned Beyoncé’s endorsement. The fried chicken joint, which currently has 10 locations in operation, is a Houston icon in its own right. New Orleans native Percy “Frenchy” Creuzot Jr. opened the first location at 3919 Scott St., across from Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, on July 3, 1969. The restaurant, which aimed to dish out New Orleans-style cuisine in a quick-serve format, quickly became a favorite among locals and visitors alike, particularly for its seasoned fried chicken, which is inspired by a New Orleans family recipe. Houston diners also laud the restaurant for its soulful sides, including dirty rice, red beans, and collard greens.

In 2017, Beyonce visited Frenchy’s after a day of serving food to victims of Hurricane Harvey. Her mother, Tina Lawson, spilled their order, which included fried chicken, red beans, rice, French fries, greens, cornbread, and lemon pound cake.
