Breaking: Culturemap covers … the Chronicle’s coverage … of Houston’s top 100 restaurants

What better do our hometown food media specialists have to do than write about … well, each other?

The Houston Chronicle released its top 100 Houston restaurants, and in response, Culturemap published a listicle of 7 responsive hot takes, including that 11 barbecue restaurant is too many, 5 pizza restaurants is too few, and that the Chronicle has overlooked the virtue of two Galleria-area Hillstone-clone "corporate siblings".

Snarkiness aside, the whole thing makes me sad. There has to be space in this town for thoughtful, meaningful food and restaurant criticism. But it seems like all we get are TikTok "ads," lists, heat maps, and restaurant press releases published as content.
