My brother’s drink got spiked at Heights Theater

My brother (late 20s) and his friends went to a show at the Heights Theater seeing Atlas Genius, Robert Delong, Normal Behaviour on October 4th. He went with two of his friends N (late 20's female) and C (late 20's male). I swung by his apartment to let his dog out and feed her. When I opened the door I found brother puking in his kitchen sink, pale as a ghost, and sweating profusely. N and C filled me in that they were just drinking canned beer and only had about 4-5 each in the span of 2-3 hours. On brother's last beer he had majority of it left and immediately started feeling ill during the show. They found brother waiting in his car for them to take him home. Flash forward to me running into him.

Brother asked to be taken to the Hospital/ER and to also call an ambulance. Which he is normally avidly against doing. There he did an EKG and a drug panel/test. The doctor found buprenorphine in his system. They gave him Narcan and fluids. Currently he is doing a lot better. But the doctor said it would stay in his system for awhile. Because unlike other opioids buprenorphine is long lasting, doesn't spike, and he will not feel "normal" for a couple of days. His discharge papers read "Accidental Opioid Overdose".

I called Heights Theater to let them know what happened and no one answered. Left a voicemail. Hopefully they call back.

This post is to raise awareness that people are getting their drinks spiked with buprenorphine in Houston and to stay safe.
