West university?

Moving to Houston from Chicago. Wife did some research and suggested that West university area may be the best place to move to. Seems like a good elementary school, responsive police, low crime, and younger families. Anything else to consider or be aware of? Would prefer to avoid overly political areas, both liberal and republican. May be hard to avoid in Texas. Thanks for inputs.
