Houston’s sidewalks are a death trap.

Obviously this varies by neighborhood, and I imagine this is in large part due to shallow tree roots and flooding, but there are vast portions that are so uneven or literally just disintegrating as to constitute serious safety hazards for anyone walking on them, with absolutely no attempt to fix issues that have existed for long times. I know it’s not a quick, easy, or inexpensive fix, but surely having safe sidewalks can’t be too much to ask of the fourth largest city in the United States. We have bigger problems, like functioning power infrastructure, but on some level, there are similarities with what we accept for our common resources.
