My job has a crisis fund.

I encourage anyone who lost work due to the hurricane to reach out to their HR department to see if there are any options to help.

Context, I work from home for a company out of state.

Essentially lost 5 days of work due to Hurricane Berly. I was already scheduled off for vacation till Wednesday 7/10,but I used up all my vacation time.

My power didn’t return till Monday afternoon, and my manager wanted me to take Tuesday to get things in order around my house and return Wednesday. Which was amazing. I appreciate his thoughtfulness.

Yesterday, he let me know that he had reached out to HR on options for compensation during since I no longer had PTO. He was only advised that I would need to reach out to HR. So I did.

Today, a woman from a new department within the HR unit contacted me after reviewing my email. I was told this was a new department was just created in June, and it focuses on offering financial support to those experiencing crisis. Natural disasters meets their criteria. I had to complete the application process and will hear back next week if it’s been approved.

This will be so helpful because we are having to replace the roof, fence. We have insurnace, but still have a deductible we will have to meet.
