FBISD – Reconsideration of Institutional Materials Policy

In April, the FBISD Board of Trustees decided that to postpone voting on the proposed Institutional Resources Policy until after a workshop that will be held June 5th. The proposed policy was terrible and removed the Reconsideration Committee, leaving the decision about which books should or should not be allowed in school libraries to be made by a single individual.

The author of the proposed policy is the same trustee that has been responsible for all 33 books that have been challenged thus far. This trustee has not read a single one of the books he’s challenged and has stated books with anti-Christian themes should be removed.

Friends of FBISD Libraries has created a petition asking for greater transparency in the books challenge process in order to provide the community with a better understanding of the decision-making process.
