Looking for cost saving advice on pet insulin/moniter

My roommate has a cat that is diabetic, she currently spends roughly $500 a month between the insulin and the monitor she uses to check insulin levels

I am looking for any advice on possible cost savings that might be possible, she does have insurance for herself but not the pet.

Manufacturer coupons wont work as they are only intended for people even though its the same medicine as for pets
