The Pit Room Brings Central Texas-Style Barbecue to Memorial City

Find Czech-style beef, macaroni and cheese, and an in-house ice cream sandwich station at the new location
A second location of the acclaimed Pit Room opened in Memorial City this week. Known for its Central Texas-style barbecue, fans of plates like Czech-style beef, charro beans, and elote will find a similar menu at the larger space, which boasts an expansive indoor and outdoor seating area, a retail meat market, and specialty menu items.
“Joining the Memorial City community is an exciting next step as we expand the Pit Room’s signature offerings, and we look forward to continuing our legacy of delicious barbecue and memorable experiences for friends and families,” Sambrooks Hospitality founder Michael Sambrooks said in a press statement.

Similar to its original Richmond location, rustic, casual dining is the focus, albeit with much more space. The 6,300-square-foot interior has seating for just over 100 at high-top and traditional dining tables, while 2,610 square feet of covered patio seats and several picnic tables can host an additional 128 guests and larger groups outdoors. The design mirrors the original location, and two 26-foot-long bars made of a concrete countertop and natural Baywood honeycomb mosaic frame the spaces. Sport lovers can enjoy games on one of 27 flat-screen televisions, which are spread throughout the restaurant.

The robust menu of brisket, beef ribs and pork ribs, chicken and turkey, and plenty of sides is familiar to visitors who frequent the original location, but there are also exciting additions at the Memorial outpost. A homemade ice cream station filled with different cookie and topping options is the centerpiece of a wide selection of other desserts. A meat market is stocked with newly launched bottles of the Pit Room’s signature sauces, and components of the Texas trinity — including packaged sausage and brisket. The restaurant is also working on the rollout of a Southern-style menu inclusive of offerings like brisket egg rolls, fried pickles, and chicken tenders. Industry veteran Sarah Crowl will lead the bar program, showcasing signature and classic cocktails and wine and beer selections.
The Memorial outpost is located at 10301 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77024. It’s open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
