Comparable neighborhoods to far west side San Antonio?

My husband got a really good job offer in Houston and we’re looking to move there in the next year. I’m hoping to find other people in this sub that have experience living on the far west side (outside 1604/potranco area) in San Antonio and if you found neighborhoods that were similar in terms of mostly families and not too close to all the hustle but also not more than 30-40 mins away (roughly).

Our kids are homeschooled so we aren’t concerned with the school ratings but we would like to find something that has a suburban feel with kids freely playing on the streets without being annoyingly uppity or crazy pricey. Ideally would like to rent a 3-4 bedroom house with a yard for under $3k. My biggest concern is safety as I’ll be home alone with kids while my partner travels occasionally. We were told that far west side SA was sketchy and that was far from true. I assume a lot of people will suggest the wealthy bougie areas and that’s not what we’re interested in, just a basic, safe, kid friendly neighborhood. Commuting is a non issue as well as this job is 99% remote
