Team Culture?

I think the main problem with the Astros so far is a lack of identity. On High Heat today, they talked about the surprisingly hot start to the season the Brewers have made to this season. In discussing this with their on field reporter, she noted how the team was bought into the values that new manager Pat Murphy espouses: "love what you do", discipline, accountability, and "win today". It's important for a leader, especially a new one, to be crystal clear about what the organization is about. So clear that they get repeated on national television. It allows you to make decisions in an objective way and provide clear expectations up and down the organization. I don't hear much about "win today" around the Astros. It's all excuses about slow starts, it's still early, and backs of baseball cards. They don't have to have the same values as the Brewers, but they need have something to build an identity around. Here's who we are, here's what we expect, here's how we are measuring up against this as a team and individually, etc.
