Is There A Big Need For Small CPA Offices in Houston?
Hello and TIA
Throwaway account but just curious if there is a big need for small CPA offices to handle small business accounting, advisory & tax / Personal Tax in Houston? I see it constantly mentioned how the market is good for W2 employees in the field but haven’t seen much in regard to self-employed.
My wife and I are seriously considering moving to Houston or Austin (I know vastly different but I love the city but my wife is a bit skidish of a bigger city, Austin may be a better fit in that case). We are curious as to how that would work out or how difficult it would be to network/drum up clients or even reach out to older small firms/medium firms to have them pass the clients they cull. We have established businesses in our area but we both aren’t happy with the community we currently live in, it really doesn’t fit what we are looking for long term. Obviously starting from scratch would be harder than keeping our established practices but we have an EF of 2 years living expenses plus our home equity. We are both go-getters and would not be afraid of networking/marketing.
Also open to ideas of how you may have made a transition like this work going from city to city as an owner? One I have thought of is picking up 30h/wk each of really solid contract work which would leave 10h/wk to prospect, as we pick up more of our own work, we reduce contract to 25/20/15 etc.
Thanks for anyone taking the time to read this and help us out with suggestions/insight.
