Is there anywhere in Houston to surrender a firearm\ammunition?

My mom has a couple of old guns and some ammunition she wants to get rid of. She isn't really interested in going through the process of selling them. I saw online HCSO has had a few gun buyback programs but they seem to be one off events. Does HCSO accept them at other times if you are willing to surrender them without payment?
