My very favorite piece of useless Texans trivia

The Texans have held the first overall draft pick three times in franchise history. This happened in the April 2002 draft, the April 2006 draft and the May 2014 draft.

Coincidentally, each time we’ve picked first has followed the release of a new Xbox console. The original Xbox in November 2001, the Xbox 360 in November 2005 and the Xbox One in November 2013.

As you might have heard, Microsoft is planning to release the next Xbox, the Xbox Series X/S, this coming November. And if history repeats itself, that can only mean one thing…

For the sake of our team, I hope this doesn’t end up being the case. That’s because if we end up with the first overall pick again, it won’t be us who gets to spend it but rather the Dolphins. BoB, never shy about mortgaging our future, handed over next year’s first rounder to Miami as part of the deal for Laremy Tunsil.

Anyway, Xbox console releases are obviously not a scientific way to forecast our draft selection, but I do love this bit of useless trivia.

For anyone wondering whether this trend holds true for Sony or Nintendo, it does not (or not exactly). PS1 was 12/94, PS2 was 3/00, PS3 was 11/06, PS4 was 11/13 and PS5 is scheduled for late 2020. NES was 10/85, SNES was 11/90, N64 was 6/96, GC was 9/01, Wii was 11/06, Wii U was 11/12 and Switch was 3/17.
