Seeking an agent and personal feedback about specific apartments
My wife and I are visiting Houston mid-April to look for housing. We plan to move there on June 1 for my residency at the Medical Center. We have been searching on HAR and Google for independent housing (townhomes, single family homes, multi-family homes) and have a list we are interested in. Does anyone have any agent recommendations that can guide us in the Bellaire, Montrose, Upper Kirby, West Uni, Museum District areas?
In case we are unable to find housing on our short trip in the above mentioned areas, we also made a list of apartments we can probably quickly put in an application for. Our budget is $2k a month and we have a small dog. We have a bunch of things we want in our new home (e.g. central AC), but our number 1 priority is security. I am aware car break-ins are common but we want to minimize the possibility. My wife also works from home, so she wants to feel safe at home. We had some security issues in our current home that have been stressing us out.
We've created a list of apartments (in case we can't find a townhome, single family home, or a multi-family home). We cut out ones with multiple reviews of break-ins. We have a Hyundai so we seem to get targeted a lot even if the culprits can't steal it. These are some within our budget and have what we need.
Does anyone have feedback about the following?
- Portico Kirby – Concern mainly about flooding and security because many communities in the region seem to have a ton of security issues (very few security concerns at least in reviews at Portico Kirby though). Commute is great.
- Sladestone Shadow Creek/Cortland Luxe Shadow Creek/Cortland Shadow Creek Avion/Avenues at Shadow Creek – Shadow Creek Ranch best fits our lifestyle (more quiet than the Medical Center area and the inner circle). Apartments are actually more like townhomes/condos and also seem the nicest and have attached garages. How is this area? It's technically Pearland so I am assuming it's nice, clean, safe. The main concern is the commute. ~20 min without traffic if I take Almeda or the 288 north.
- Gables CityWalk/Waterford Square – Great pricing and location. Price looks too good to be true though?
- Plaza Museum District – Same concerns as Portico Kirby
Lastly, which flood site do you use to check if we would be at risk for flooding?
