My dream free agent signings for each positional need
Keep in mind I'm not saying we should sign all of these players because that is simply unrealistic. These are just the players I would like to see us sign for whichever positions the front office choose to pursue in free agency. I also want to mention the chances of us signing a player like Wilkins for 25mil+ is very unlikely. We have too many holes to be spending that much on one player. Instead I think the approach should be spending 10-15mil consistently on our holes on good players that aren't going to break the bank. You'll see a lot of those players on my picks below.
RB- Devin Singletary: I just don't get the hype around Barkley when Motor will be a cheaper safer option on top of the fact Motor was better than Barkley last year behind a similar online. He had over 1,000 scrimmage yds last season while only starting half the year. He did all of this behind one of the worse blocking olines in the league. Not to mention he will already know how our offense works if he resigns and will save us the money and risk of signing Barkley. I also wouldn't mind Swift either as he is younger with a higher ceiling and will cost around the same as Motor.
WR- Gabe Davis: This is the one position I really want us to address in the draft rather than in FA, but for the sake of completion of this post I will include it. Gabe will only be 25 next season and would be the speedy deep threat we need. I'm not huge on him though because of his notorious inconsistency while he was with the Bills. He would have a 150yd game then have under 50yds the next 2 games and it would be rinse and repeat. I would hope we could fix this though if we were to sign him. I also don't like the fact he will probably cost more than he should because of the lack of talent in this year's WR FA class.
EDGE- Bryce Huff: Huff is an interesting case that really intrigues me. He's a rotational edge that flat out destroys when he is on the field. He had double digit sacks while being a rotational piece and I would be really curious to see if Demeco could make him take at least 80% of snaps on the edge. If he can take that next step I truly believe he would be one of the most dominant pass rushers in the league. My only real con with him outside of his snap count is his run D. It definitely needs work, but even if he can't fix it we can easily draft/sign a mid to late round edge that specializes in run stopping to come on on rushing downs.
DT- Maurice Hurst: This is a guy probably a lot of you haven't heard of since only big name free agents get highlighted on this sub, but he will be a cheap under-the-radar guy we should definitely look at. He had a 14% pash rush win rate with a high run stopping grade than Wilkins. He isn't too old either considering he will be 29 next season. He and Rankins would make a solid tandem for the 2024 season.
LB1- Blake Cashman: He was our best defensive player last year and ranked 5th via PFF out of all linebackers. Our defense looked completely different without him on the field, so he's a guy I believe we must retain at all costs. Our LB coverage rate last season was bad and may have been the worst in the league if we didn't have Cashman. He's a guy that can cover and stuff the run and he makes our defense so much better.
LB2- Azeez Al-Shaair: He would be our Perryman replacement. He essentially has the same qualities as Perryman just better and younger. I think he would also take a discount to come back to play for Demeco so I think that makes this signing all the more desirable. He plays the run great and covers decent enough, he would be a fine addition to our LB group.
CB- Kendall Fuller: A veteran who hasn't lost his step with age, he would pair very nicely with Sting on the outside. His coverage grades are all in the mid 80's which is outstanding. Not much else to say he's a great player and would give us arguably the best corner duo in the league.
Slot- Desmond King ll: We need a slot guy and why not resign King. He really showed up last year when we needed him to and I especially like his LB like tackling skills. He's a good reliable slot option we could get for relatively cheap.
Safety- Xavier McKinney: Boy do I love this guy. He'll turn 25 right before the start of the season which is younger than Pitre btw, and he was one of the BEST safeties in the league this past season. His coverage rate is 92 and he rarely misses tackles two things you love to see in a safety. We won't have to worry about any more explosive plays deep with McKinney on patrol and it would turn Pitre and Ward into rotational players which I think will benefit both greatly. Keep in mind he was also on the Giants who have some of the worst coaching in the league and he will go from that to being coached by Demeco. I genuinely feel like this dude can be the best safety in the league with us.
Punter- Cam Johnston: Dude was great for us last year, when have a great punter resign them period.
