Whole Family Dies, Landlord Heartless
I never thought anyone could be so cold.
My Father passed in March, my Grandmother passed a month ago, and my Mom passed 2 weeks ago. My sister leased an apartment with my mom, and has been struggling with being an independent adult, so I invited her to come live with me in Washington(I’m from Houston, and that’s where she lives) so she can get her life together.
The lease they have is up in December, and I went to take care of the matter on my sisters behalf because she was in no state to do so. I accepted that we might just have to pay the lease off, but went to see if there was anything to be done.
Not only did I not receive any sympathy, I was belittled, insulted and overcharged.
I nicely explained to the office manager the situation, received no condolences, and was coldly told that if we don’t take care of it it’ll go on her record. Like no duh, that’s why I am here. Then I was given an exit cost that was more than the cost to just pay off her lease. I had to point this out to her. Not only did she not try to help me, she tried to overcharge me.
THEN, she said we would have to come in on October 1st to deliver a 60 day written notice. Not a day before, not a day after. She knew we were moving across the country did she expect us to fly back to deliver a letter? I had to drag it out of her that we could mail it. To top it off she hurled insults at me as I walked out the door.
I never thought a person could be so cold. Take a look at the video I recorded of the situation, she gets really rude towards the end. Is this normal? Is there anything else I can do. Argument with Landlord
TLDR: Landlord attempted to overcharge, inconvenience, and insulted me for trying to help my sister out after both of our parents died recently.
