Local Sewer Water?
Hello all! A question came up when I was chatting to some friends the other day and it has genuinely bugged me since. The conversation was about terrible local alcohols, and the friend from Chicago brought up Malort, which I'm told tastes like you did a shot of sewer water off of a harry sweaty guy who's been swimming in gasoline. Most locals to Chicago know it as either a cheap but terrible way to get drunk or a fun thing to trick tourists with.
Now, I've lived in Houston for almost all of my life, but I've only been of drinking age these last few years and I live two streets over from the mud tax line, so I'm a bit removed and there's a lot of the drinking culture here I haven't had a chance to take part in. That said, it has genuinely bothered me these last couple of days that when my friend asked if there was something similar in Houston, I couldn't answer. Do we have a local sewer water drink? I know we have some pretty decent breweries, but I don't think I've had anything bad at them?
