Wear to live in Houston between WestU and Jersey village?

My gf just got a job in Jersey Village while I work in West University area. Where can we live in Houston that minimizes her driving time (nervous about traffic) but is still like a cool nice area for young adults? Apartment recommendations too would be so helpful!
