Hisd extending school sessions

Just got an email indicating HISD wants to extend school sessions. I am not sure why though! Kids should study and be knowledgeable but also enjoy life. I see some parents being happy for it but I don’t see why or didn’t see any reasons/benefits for extended sessions. Not sure what I am missing here.
