Houston Housing / Internship Advice (new to the area)

I am interning with a company on McKinney St in Houston (the big building area lol).

I will be totally new to the area and am currently trying to secure housing for the two month span. I am considering renting a house on Fletcher Street just two or so miles north of the company building. I believe the neighborhood is called Historic Near Northside. Three questions for people who live in or near Houston:

  1. Is this street/area livable? Or is this a part of the area that you want to stay away from?
  2. Do you think I will end up driving to work, or should I walk two blocks to a bus stop that I believe routes me right near my work? The house is only 2.5 miles away from the office, but I am assuming the traffic and parking is not forgiving during normal working hours. Are the bus schedules reliable and the whole process mainly safe?
  3. Any other advice regarding working, commuting, and living in Houston for the summer? I have also considered finding a place north of Houston and making the commute, but the drive/traffic would likely not be worth it unless my current option in the city is legitimately unsafe.
