The most mysterious player on the Texans’ roster finally got his first offensive snaps of the season last Sunday
After the final round of cuts during the preseason, the Texans claimed the Bills' 2023 7th-rounder, Nick Broeker, off of waivers after the Bills cut him in an attempt to put him on their practice squad. Broeker spent Weeks 1-16 on the Texans 53-man roster without getting a single offensive snap until he finally saw action against the Titans on Sunday, to the tune of 3 plays.
Now, normally I wouldn't blink twice at a back up offensive lineman not getting into a game all season, but considering how the Texans were losing linemen in droves all season, it feels almost impossible. Here's a list of every interior offensive lineman who received at least 1 offensive snap before Broeker: Shaq Mason, Jarrett Patterson, Juice Scruggs, Josh Jones, Kendrick Green, Michael Deiter, Jimmy Morrissey, and Dieter Eiselen.
Broeker has not spent any time on the practice squad, and he hasn't been released and re-signed. He has had a stranglehold on a roster spot all season, yet the coaching staff has refused to put him in. It's not like I'm against having him on the roster, though, because I like his potential. It's just strange that they would give so many other guys a shot before him. If he was injured but they still wanted to keep him under contract, they would have just put him on IR.
What a mysterious guy! Maybe his 3 offensive snaps will finally be the start of the Texans seeing him as a legitimate back up option?
